How to Ask for Feedback in a Global Role

By Bonga Jobs

Turn general requests for feedback into useful conversations that improve your work and career direction.

Feedback is easier to give and use when you ask about a specific behavior, deliverable, or decision.Choose the right momentAsk after a project milestone, presentation, or collaboration rather than waiting for a vague annual conversation. Consider whether written, live, or anonymous input will produce the clearest response.Ask focused questionsTry questions such as what should I continue, what should I change, and what would make the next version stronger. Ask about observable work, not personality or cultural stereotypes.Listen without defendingThank the person, clarify examples, and pause before explaining your intent. If feedback is unclear or conflicts with other guidance, ask for a concrete behavior and expected outcome.Close the loopChoose one or two actions, set a review point, and tell the person what you changed. This shows that feedback became improvement rather than a one-time conversation.
