How to Manage International Freelance Clients
By Bonga Jobs
Set clear scope, payment, communication, and approval processes when serving clients across borders.
Freelance relationships become easier when both sides agree on what will be delivered, when, and how changes will be handled.Write a specific proposalDescribe the problem, deliverables, exclusions, milestones, client inputs, revision limits, and acceptance criteria. Define unfamiliar terms and include the working time zone.Set payment termsState currency, deposit or milestone schedule, invoice details, fees, late-payment handling, and the method used. Check the legal and tax implications for your location before you commit.Manage approvalsChoose one decision maker, use a shared review channel, and summarize approvals in writing. A client’s silence should not automatically count as acceptance unless the contract says so clearly.Handle scope changesWhen a request falls outside scope, describe its effect on time and cost and offer options. Pause the extra work until the revised agreement is approved.
